Over the last few weeks, I’ve really been reflecting and preparing for my 30’s and a few months prior to my birthday, God gave the word or theme that I needed to focus on for the year. The word is: Breakthrough.

Now this is not new, because every year God gives me a birthday gift. The gift usually comes in the form of a Word (although sometimes, it’s physical), and it usually connects my talents or desires to his purpose for my life.

​

For example, when I turned 20, God gifted me with a husband…

Literally…😂

​

My (now) husband called me at midnight on my 20th birthday to send his birthday wishes and ask me on a date after revealing that he had a crush on me since elementary school.

​

My birthday was October 28th and at the time I was a junior in college, living in East Lansing, MI, while he was currently living in Raleigh, NC. We hadn’t seen each other in 12 years and as you can imagine this call definitely caught me by surprise. It wasn’t the typical birthday call I expected, but for some reason I was intrigued.

​

So…when he asked me out, he told me that he would be in Ohio visiting his family in May of the next year and that he would love to make a quick trip to Michigan to take me out.

​

And yes… you read that right. This man was calling me to ask me out on a date, 7 MONTHS from our initial call.

​

He seemed genuine, so I told him that if I was single in 7 months, I’d go out with him. He laughed and agreed to our date in May and then hung up the phone.

​

Now my immediate response was to call my mom. I had to tell her about that bizarre date request and when she heard the story, she laughed and told me to call him back and let him know that I would be in North Carolina in 3 days.

​

Now what I forgot to mention, is that I had a trip planned already to attend homecoming at North Carolina A&T State University. I had been planning that trip for a year and honestly, I was a HUGE J. Cole fan, and I could not wait to see him in person and attend his concert.

​

I told my mom that there was NO WAY I would be missing J. Cole for a date with a guy I hadn’t seen in 12 years. (In my mind, he could wait until May. 😭) But…my mom told me that she still had his mom’s number and that I had until Midnight to make the call or she would call his mom, get his number and tell him herself.

​

I called him back, let him know that I would be in North Carolina in 3 days and told him that if he wanted to meet me that Saturday, I would be willing to skip the game to grab lunch with him.
​

Well… my location was only 30 minutes from where he lived, and on November 2nd, 2013, we went on our first date. It was nothing special. We went to Cracker Barrel to the movies and then parted ways. However, as soon as he left, I felt a hole in my heart. It was the weirdest thing because I never felt that for a guy before, let alone after a first date.

​

On November 8th, 2013, we decided to officially start dating and we were married by June of 2014. That’s before what would have been our first date in May. Today, on November 8th, 2023, we’ve been married for 9 years, and together for 10. It’s amazing what God will do when we submit to his timing!

​

Now, I tell you this story, not to brag about my relationship, but to point out what can happen when you take a leap of faith and trust God.

​

My husband had no idea that I would answer his call, nor did he know that I would be in his city that weekend. Yet, he had faith to ask me out. I, on the other hand, had no idea that I would receive that call on my birthday. Nor did I think I would be married before my senior year of college. But again, I had faith that God would cause all things to work together for our good.

​

But the biggest lesson of our story is that we never know what God is working on in the background. We may have our own plans and our own timeline, but God can change our lives in just 3 days. Just take a look at how much we've grown in 10 years:

I say all this to let you know that I had no plans of doing this, but I had 2 people reach out to me regarding launching their podcast by December 1st, which means, to make this happen we would need to start on November 10th. Therefore, in 3 days, I’ll be relaunching Positioned to Podcast, my 21-day podcast launch program, for those who are READY to take a leap of faith and share their story with the masses.

(Again, this was not planned. My goal was to run a whole Black Friday sale and create a high ticket group coaching program, but when the Holy Spirit speaks, it’s important to move. )
